#GivingTuesday402: ‘Love Your Neighbor’ City Wide Diaper Drive!

Did you know that 1 in 3 families in Omaha struggle to provide enough clean diapers for their babies?  And, did you know that diapers are not covered by most government subsidies? The Life House is the Omaha area’s Diaper Bank, providing 50,000 diapers per month to babies in need.

In conjunction with #GivingTuesday, The Life House is holding the ‘Love Your Neighbor’ City-Wide Diaper Drive!  Can you help by sending us diapers through our Amazon Wishlist, dropping off a donation at a diaper donation location, or donating dollars that we can turn into diapers?  Our high need is for size 6 diapers, but any donations are appreciated!

WHEN: Monday November 23rd – Monday November 30th                                       Questions?  Email info@thelifehouseomaha.org

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

It’s as easy as one, two, three!  Hop onto our Amazon Wishlist and send us diapers! Our highest need is size 6.

Did you know —  Through our partnership with the National Diaper Bank Network, we have the ability to bulk purchase diapers at about half of the retail cost?  We are currently unable to purchase size 6 through these channels, but all other sizes we can purchase at a lower rate.  Donate here and we’ll turn your dollars into diapers!

#GivingTuesday402

In connection with #GivingTuesday402, we are excited to announce the ‘Love Your Neighbor’ City-wide Diaper Drive to fill our NEW warehouse with Size 6 diapers!

COVID has hit everyone hard; at The Life House we have been unable to order Size 6 diapers (our most-requested size) from our regular supplier.

We are looking for people with awesome neighborhoods, businesses, and offices in Omaha to be a donation location for our drive. Collection is the week of Monday November 23rd – Monday November 30th. Donations will be dropped off at our new warehouse on Giving Tuesday, December 1st, 2020.

This is a great way to meet other people in your community and increase community engagement and awareness — all while providing a much needed basic resource to hundreds of Omaha families in need. We’ll give you the tools, you make the connection!

We will set you up for success by providing you with:

  • Yard signs
  • content to post on social media, NextDoor, neighborhood message boards, etc.
  • Neighborhood flyer template
  • FAQs
  • The Life House swag

FAQs

The Life House is Omaha’s Diaper Bank and neighborhood food pantry.  They currently give out about 50,000 diapers each month to families in need both through direct distribution and through partnerships with other organizations.  They also directly distribute food to low-income families and currently serve about 175 families each month, giving over 12,000 meals.  The Life House outreach center is located in the Prairie Lane neighborhood, at 11806 Prairie Lane Drive and has been open for over 6 years.  They serve families at the outreach center every 3rd Tuesday and 4th Saturday of the month.

Diaper need is the struggle to provide a sufficient number of clean, dry diapers to ensure that each diaper-wearing person can be changed out of wet or soiled diapers as often as necessary.  It is a new concept for many, and it is unheard of in our area to make it a central focus of our organization’s work. For families who stretch every dollar, the extra burden of $70 to $125 for diapers per child every month can be the breaking point.  We know that families who are living in poverty are not receiving the help they need with diapers for their babies, as there are almost no government programs that cover the cost of diapers.  According to the Medicaid births in Douglas County, we have almost 12,000 children who suffer from diaper need.  If we were to end diaper need in just this one county, we would need to distribute over 8 million diapers.

All donations are welcome and appreciated!  The Life House has a great need for Size 6 diapers right now.  Size 6 is our most requested size and we currently give out over 12,000 of this size each month.  Due to COVID, we are unable to order Size 6 diapers in bulk from our regular supplier.  We currently do not have any warehouse stock of Size 6 so we are facing gaps in service to our clients and partners.

YES!  We are happy to accept open packs of diapers in all sizes as long as they have been stored in a clean, dry place.  We repackage all of our purchased and donated diapers into uniform bundles to distribute to our clients.  Any open packages are set aside for a period of time, for safety reasons, and then bundled and distributed.

YES!  The Life House has an Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/8MBZAA6DDE4H/ref=cm_go_nav_hz that you can order from and it will be sent directly to The Life House.  During checkout be sure to select The Life House address for shipping.  If you would like your neighborhood or office to receive ‘credit’ for this donation just be sure to include a note (under gift options at checkout) with the order with your name and the name of your neighborhood/office.

Absolutely.  You can donate directly to The Life House at www.thelifehouseomaha.org/donate/.  We also always accept non-perishable, non-expired food donations, with cereal being our greatest need.

The Life House also has multiple volunteer opportunities available.  You can see those by visiting www.thelifehouseomaha.org/volunteer/.  We also love to have groups volunteer with us!  You can schedule a group volunteer event by emailing info@thelifehouseomaha.org
